Panaversity Certified Associate: Foundations
PCAO-F is designed to prepare you for Anthropic’s CCAO-F (Claude Certified Associate – Foundations) exam. It follows the same published blueprint, covering the same objectives at the same weights, but it does not stop there.
PCAO-F takes that blueprint one level up by testing the concepts in a broader, vendor-neutral context, adding related topics that are important in real-world AI work, and filling gaps that are outside the scope of the official exam.
Passing PCAO-F therefore gives you a strong, low-cost signal that you are ready to attempt the official Anthropic certification while also building a more complete foundation for practical AI engineering.

This is the first exam on the Panaversity FDE path, and it examines one layer: judgment. Using AI, evaluating what it hands back, and governing where it is allowed to operate. Not building it.
It is written for the person who already works with AI every day without writing the integration code. Operations, marketing, project management, communications, teaching, consulting, analysis.
That covers two people, not one: the internal staffer who keeps an AI-enabled workflow honest, and the external consultant brought in to redesign it.
What it proves to a stranger is narrow and useful. Somebody who has never seen your work can verify that an independent proctored exam found you able to tell a good output from a plausible one, validate it before it moves, and know the point at which a human has to look.
Same Blueprint, One Level Up
PCAO-F takes the same blueprint one level up. It examines every objective on Anthropic's published CCAO-F blueprint, at the published weights. Then it keeps going, because the courses do: the same judgment asked across vendors. Its study guide puts Claude and ChatGPT side by side, and clearing it means the official blueprint holds nothing you have not already been examined on.
The two are not competing, and PCAO-F is not a replacement for anything. CCAO-F is the credential an employer can verify with Anthropic, and that is the one worth carrying. PCAO-F is built to stand under it: to get you to that sitting prepared, and to leave you with coverage the vendor exam has no reason to test.
What that extra reach buys is vendor neutrality and professional coverage.
CCAO-F tests this judgment inside one company's product surface, in that company's vocabulary: Projects, artifacts, research mode, connectors, Haiku and Sonnet and Opus.
PCAO-F lifts the same question above the product surface. The architecture question rather than the Claude Code question. The evaluation discipline rather than the product feature that implements it. The governance obligation you carry into a regulated client rather than one vendor's usage policy.
That is not a preference. It is the job. You will sit in front of a customer who runs Claude, or runs something else, or runs three things at once, and you have to be right either way.

Anthropic does not require PCAO-F. The gate is Panaversity's, and it exists for two reasons.
An Anthropic attempt costs a fee, and failing one costs time as well. The waits run 14 days after a first failure, 30 after a second, and 90 after a third.
A proctored exam against the same blueprint, free for your first two attempts as a Panaversity student, is a much cheaper way to find out where you stand.
The second reason is the credential itself. Panaversity puts its own name and internship behind the people who pass, so the standard has to mean something.

What It Tests
Seven domains, in the order the official CCAO-F guide numbers them. The weights are the guide's own, and the guide calls them approximate proportions of the scored items.
Every course in the study guide touches every domain somewhere. The last column is where each domain's centre of mass lives: the course to read first, then the one or two that carry the rest of its objectives.

Three domains carry more than half of it. Output Evaluation and Validation at 21 percent, Workflow Integration and Solution Design at 16 percent, and Governance, Risk, and Responsible Use at 15 percent add up to 52 percent of the exam. Read the table the other way and those three domains lean on three courses: AI Fluency, Workflow Design & Diagnosis, and Governance. That is a sharper study hint than the percentages alone.
Notice what is not at the top. Prompting is 14 percent.
The heaviest single domain is the one about what you do with the answer: checking it, catching the hallucination, deciding whether this is a case a person has to sign.
That is the thesis of the credential, stated as a number.
Your CCAO-F score report shows percent-correct by domain, but the guide is explicit that those section percentages are not used to determine pass or fail. The result is your total scaled score against a cut score of 720. A weak domain cannot fail you by itself. It is still the domain most likely to fail you on a different question draw, which is why a strong total hiding one thin area is the profile worth worrying about.
The Panaversity sitting asks all seven, then keeps going where the vendor-specific version of the question would have stopped.
Product and model selection becomes the class of decision rather than three model names: what you trade when you buy speed, what a long context actually costs, when to restart a session instead of stretching one.
Configuration and knowledge management becomes the instruction and knowledge layer in general, not one product's Projects panel.
Governance becomes the obligation you carry into a client who answers to a regulator, not a single vendor's acceptable-use page.
And the professional layer sits on top of all of it: explaining to the person paying you what the system will not do, before they find out themselves.

Take the free PCAO-F sample exam before you book your proctored sitting. It works like the real exam: the same number of questions, the same time limit, and no feedback until you submit. It does not use up any of your attempts.
Every attempt you finish is saved to your Panaversity account, so you can open your score reports again later.

PCAO-F is proctored. There are two routes to a seat, and the one you take depends on whether you are studying with Panaversity.
If you are enrolled in the matching Panaversity course, your attempt is free and you arrange it with your teacher. If you are not enrolled, you buy an attempt and sit it with one-on-one proctoring. The card below handles both.
After You Pass
Next is PCAR-F, the Architect Foundations exam. The order is deliberate. PCAO-F asks whether you can use and evaluate AI responsibly. PCAR-F asks whether you can design the system it runs inside. Judgment first, architecture second.
Passing both completes the Panaversity qualification stage, which is what qualifies you for the FDE Internship Program. Project work in the FTE Startup Founders Program starts the day you pass PCAO-F; you can register your interest as soon as you pass.
The internship matters mechanically as well as practically. Anthropic registration requires an eligible organisational account and there is currently no individual sign-up route; Panaversity assists qualifying internship participants with registration.
Then, if you choose to sit them, the official pair in the same order: CCAO-F, then CCAR-F.
One honest limit. PCAO-F is a readiness credential and an access gate. It is not the thing an employer looks up in Anthropic's own registry.
That is CCAO-F. This exam is how you arrive there without spending an attempt to find out where you stand.

The guide's own sample questions are explicitly not drawn from the live item bank. They show you the shape of a question and nothing about its content, so do not study them as though they were leaked items.
Anthropic hosts the guides on a content bucket, and those URLs can change.
